The Chairperson of the Government of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze confirms that people are trapped in the ruins of a building in Batumi.
"It is a very serious case. Rescuers saved the child, but people were still in the rubble. So rescuers continue to work. Everything will be done to save the people there. Of course, we can not talk about the versions in advance. We do not have complete information; work is underway - both rescue operations and contact with people who remain there. The investigation will find out everything. The main thing now is to help these people," Tornike Rizhvadze said.
A residential building on 26 May Street in Batumi collapsed about an hour ago.
Rescuers pulled two children out of the rubble. One of them is a newborn; one is one year and three months old. Both children were taken to the hospital.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Citizens are under the collapsed building in Batumi.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement regarding the incident.
