Treating COVID-19 at home: Care tips from Georgian specialist at Hopkins University

Mamuka Machaidze, a Georgian specialist at Johns Hopkins University, has shared home care tips for patients with mild COVID-19 symptoms with social media users.

Firstly, Mr. Machaidze reminded citizens that the possibility of contracting mild coronavirus is higher than severe, and if symptoms are mild, the necessity of visiting a medical institution does not exist.

Following the suggested tips, in-home treatment requires that patients:

a) be in touch with his or her doctor and receive regular consultations.

b) drink much water (people suffering from coronary artery diseases are exceptions).

c) refuse to take fever medications if the body temperature is less than 38.3°.

d) move their limbs a lot; do squats and other exercises.

e) refuse to take an aspirin if not subscribed.

f) call an ambulance if experiencing respiratory failures, chest pain that comes and goes, or tightness in their chest, inability to think clearly, and bluish face or lips.

g) take vitamin D if suffering from its deficiency.

h) wear a face mask, wash hands frequently, and rubber gloves if taking care of a coronavirus patient, and if there is enough room, accommodate him or her in a separate room.

i) follow these recommendations when showing typical symptoms even after testing negatively for the novel virus.
