"The rehabilitation works of the underground railroad connecting upper and lower Ponichala and the access road to the Krtsanisi district in Tbilisi completed," Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi said at a government meeting.
"The railway line crosses the lower and upper Ponichala settlements, and the closest intersection are the ones of Marneuli and Rustavi highways. It means that the shortest road distance between these two nearby settlements is five kilometers. The underground railway crosses the railway tunnel near Ghoghoberidze Street and reduces the distance to 100 meters, which reduces the time and costs ," Kaladze stated.
According to the Mayor of the capital, the project will also reduce traffic flow at the intersection of the Marneuli and Rustavi highways, where during rush hour, traffic jams occur quite often. Tbilisi City Hall spent GEL 2 582 473 to fulfill the project.
