Twelve years after August war: Flags lowered on state agency buildings

The national flag has been lowered on the building of the Georgian Government Administration to pay homage to the victims of Russia's intervention in Georgia with the aim of occupying the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Georgian flags will be lowered on all buildings of state agencies.

In the 2008 August war, 228 peaceful Georgian citizens, 169 military men and 19 policemen were killed. More than 150,000 Georgians were forced to abandon their houses, with 30,000 still having the status of IDP. More than 1,700 were wounded that day.
