Former Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili will be released from custody today. On Feb.20, his prison term ends. Mr. Merabishvili was incarcerated on 21 May 2013 and has been kept behind bars since.
The cases related to Merabishvili's name discussed in the international courts, and his prison terms are as follows:
1. Illegal confiscation of the Akura Wine Factory, with the crime envisaging two years and three months.
2. Tempering with evidence in Sando Girgvliani's case, with the crime envisaging three years.
3. Cracking down on activists on 26 May 2011, with the crime envisaging four years and six months;
4. Appropriating and squandering funds and bribing voters, with the crime envisaging five years;
5. Physically abusing Valeri Gelashvili, with the crime envisaging six years and nine months.
