Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the Center for Disease Control, said that coronavirus vaccination in Georgia is expected to start in March-April.
According to him, the state has signed an agreement with the COVAX platform; however, it is unknown which vaccine Georgia will give preference at this stage.
"It is vital for Georgia that the vaccine is available and that we start vaccinating as soon as possible. We started preparing in the summer when we established cooperation with the COVAX platform.
It is a specially created platform based on the Vaccine Alliance(Gavi) and aims to deliver coronavirus vaccines to 170 countries when approved by WHO, the European Medicines Agency, and the US Food and Drug Administration.
We have already transferred about 4 million dollars, and we will have to pay up to 17 million dollars in total. We think that vaccination will start in the country by March-April," Gamkrelidze said.
