Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has participated in a high-level virtual meeting convened to mark a momentous milestone: the UN's 75th anniversary.

According to the President's Press Office, in her address, Zurabishvili focused on the necessity of finding new forms of conflict resolution in this state of affairs, the significance of healthcare, climate, cohabitation, inclusion, and the role of an educated citizen in the society.

"The UN, which has marked its 75 anniversary today, is standing at the crossroads: global threats on the one hand, from terrorism to climate change and the global pandemic, which requires unity and solidarity but is increasing tensions and promoting segregation instead and, by doing so, putting even multilateralism under a question mark.

When the world faces new, incredibly serious challenges, global threats force us to look through a different lens at the existing practices in our public and governance systems. This implies new opportunities provided that we can see and seize them, as well as come out of our shells and look around.

The future we want has four bases:

The first is peace.

The second is a resilient planet.

The third is an inclusive and healthy society;

The fourth but not the last is the educated citizen in culturally advanced societies.

Despite its security and safety challenges, the internet has created new opportunities for education, cultural progress, and creative growth. The only and critical resource for our future development is an educated and skillful citizen.

Tolerance, which, we Georgians, deem centuries-old cultural treasure of ours, together with intellect and moral solidarity, is a value that must lead us through these uncertain times.

In order to shape a secure future, we must respect our principles and treat the Charter and Sustainable Development Goals as specific, tangible objectives rather than mere words on the paper.

"The UN We Need" will inspire our citizens and create trust and effective leadership.

Our and "our old but young" organization's future is in our hands," The President declared.
