Georgia, together with Romania, will host the UEFA European Championship under-21 in 2023. The governing body of European football made the decision at a meeting of the Executive Committee on December 3.

The final match of the 24th European Championship will be held in Batumi, at the newly built arena. 16 European teams will play in the European Championship. Games of two groups will be held in Georgia - in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Poti.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, responded to the mentioned success and congratulated the Georgian sports fans on the decision made by UEFA.

"This is another great victory for Georgian sports and recognition on the international level. At the same time, it is the result of our hard work. The joint efforts of the Georgian Football Federation, the Ministry, and the Government of Georgia have led to the recognition we have received today. The arena built in full compliance with the international standards in Batumi played a big role when receiving the right to host the European Championship. Four stadiums in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Poti will host the championship, a great gift for our football fans," Chkhenkeli stated.
