"We plan to invest GEL 100 million to develop the basketball industry and support the National Basketball Federation," Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili stated at the meeting with the President of the National Basketball Federation Paata Guraspaul.
According to the Prime Minister, the government plans to launch a basketball development program to popularize basketball in the country. Irakli Gharibashvili noted that the successful conduct of EuroBasket 2022 is important, and the National Basketball Federation has the government's full support.
"On behalf of the government, I would like to express my full respect and support to the Basketball Federation. We now have a very important event, EuroBasket 2022, so we must make every effort to make this big event a success. You have support from the government, of course, you know that we are building a big hall, the government is fully involved, and we will do even more. I desire to work together on future plans, visions. We plan to invest around GEL 100 million to develop the basketball industry, take basketball to an even higher level, and have more support for the basketball federation. There is an urgent need to develop the regions, establish basketball schools, and establish and nurture young, talented athletes. We gathered today to talk about these and other topics.
