Japanese Foreign Ministry confirms that the US will participate in the Olympics

The U.S. State Department's recommendation that Americans refrain from traveling to Japan because of the coronavirus does not apply to athletes who will attend the Tokyo Olympics. According to the Kyodo agency, Toshimitsu Motegi, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, spreads the information about the attendance.

The U.S. government is urging its citizens not to travel to Japan as a new strain of the coronavirus has spread in the country.

"We have received an explanation from the U.S. government that this recommendation will not affect the sending of the U.S. national team," Motegi said.

On May 20, it was announced that the number of foreign delegations at the Tokyo Olympics would be halved. The total number of guests at the Olympics, excluding athletes, will be no more than 78 thousand people.
