Midfielder Josh Cavallo is the first active player in the Australian A-League to declare that he is gay publicly.
The 21-year-old footballer made a statement on the social network, "I am a footballer, and I am gay," he said.
"The road leading here has been long. I have been fighting with myself for over six years. I'm glad to have this burden off my shoulders.
I know there are others, and they can not admit it publicly. I want to help them change that," Cavallo said in his Twitter message.
