Spanish police have seized an Iberian sword, the Falcata, made more than 2,000 years ago, sold at an online auction, The Guardian writes.

More than 200 collections of artifacts found during the excavations were displayed at the auction, including arrows, jewelry, and fragments of pottery.

"After a long investigation, the police tracked down the man who took the sword for sale. He was a Spanish citizen," police said in a statement.

Police added that the sword and other items were removed, and the seller was arrested on charges of violating the law on archeological finds.

The sword belonged to an Iberian warrior. It was made in the V-III centuries BC, in the pre-Roman era.

The uniqueness of the discovery lies in the fact that the Falcatas, as a personal weapon, were usually put in the grave of the owner, and the mouth of the bar was cut off. The sword is in relatively good condition, which makes it especially rare and valuable.
