Ammonium nitrate, which caused the explosion in Beirut, killed more than 100 people and injured more than 4,000, arrived in Lebanon from Georgia.

According to media reports, 2 750 tons of explosive chemicals, loaded on the Moldovan-flagged ship RHOSUS, left the port of Batumi in 2013.

The cargo was destined for Mozambique. The ship belonged to a Russian businessman Igor Grechushkin.

The ship, which entered Beirut's port, could not pass the technical inspection due to malfunction and did not get the right to continue the voyage. After a long dispute, Grechushkin left the ship in the port of Beirut and left. Ship repair was costly for him, and he chose to abandon the loaded ship instead. In 2014, a dangerous cargo got confiscated, and it was transported to a warehouse in Beirut, where six years later, it became the cause of a large-scale disaster.

The explosion took place on August 4 in the Lebanese capital. In addition to human casualties, economic losses are significant. 300,000 people were left homeless. According to preliminary data, the total amount of losses is up to 3 to 5 billion dollars.
