Armenian President Armen Sargsyan has appointed Arshak Karapetyan as the country's Defense Minister, the local media reports.

The Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, nominated Karapetyan.

Earlier, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan appointed Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister.

The newly convened Parliament of Armenia held its first sitting today.

The ruling party, "Civil Contract," which won the election, has an absolute majority. Seventy-one deputies represent Pashinyan's party. Robert Kocharyan's nationalist bloc "Armenia" won 29 seats, while Serzh Sargsyan's bloc "I have honor" has seven seats.
