American startup MeliBio has developed artificial honey identical to the ordinary one in taste, texture, and viscosity. The creators hope that the honey analog will be popular in the vegan market. Fast Company writes about the invention.
According to MeliBio CEO Darko Mandich, he decided to produce artificial honey to reduce the impact of commercial beekeeping on insects. He said industry (plus environmental factors such as climate change) could destroy hundreds of bee species in the US.
"That's why MeliBio has created a honey substitute," said the company's CEO.
The startup plans to release the first finished product by the end of 2021. According to Mandich, artificial honey will be cheaper than natural.
