Astronomers have photographed the Chinese rocket Long March 5B, torn from orbit and heading towards Earth. Scientists suggest the rocket should crash over the weekend by the end of this week.

Space "garbage" is part of the Long March 5B rocket, which China recently launched as part of the planned space station construction. Much of the space debris, which weighs 21 tons, will travel in an uncontrolled trajectory toward Earth and collide with the planet in a few days. When this residue enters the Earth's atmosphere, part of it will burn by strong friction with the air, but it is so large that it cannot physically burn entirely. It is impossible to determine the trajectory of the surviving part.

The photo of the one-second exposure was taken on May 6.
