Azerbaijan expects large-scale war from Armenia

Almost three months have passed since the Tovuz incident. Dozens of troops on both sides of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border got killed in clashes that started in July.

As a result of the intervention on the international scale, the clashes did not escalate into war. However, the Azerbaijani side claims, the situation in the region remains tense, and Armenia is preparing for a full-scale war. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, spoke about the expected aggression of Armenia. According to Aliyev, the armament of tens of thousands of civilians and the formation of volunteer detachments is underway, and the Prime Minister of Armenia is leading the processes. According to Aliyev, the entire responsibility will be placed on Armenia in case of an escalation of the conflict.

"We call on the UN and the international community not to allow new aggression from Armenia," he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, responded to the aggression of Armenia. The Turkish diplomat advised Armenia on his Twitter account to stop the aggression and come to its senses.

According to the Azerbaijani media and local analysts, Armenia's recent preparations for the war are confirmed by the recent intensification of Armenian diplomacy in the Middle East (Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt), and the meetings held there. Of particular concern to the Azerbaijani side is the Armenian side's contacts with Iraqi paramilitary groups in Iraqi Kurdistan. As haqqin.az writes, the Ambassador of Armenia to Iraq, Hrachya Poladian, has active connections with the Kurdistan Workers' Party and its leadership. According to the Azerbaijani media, Araz Sheikh Jeng Talabani, a graduate of one of the most famous Russian universities, is actively assisting the Armenian diplomat in establishing contacts.

Armenia also has close ties with the head of the Kurdish intelligence service Zanyari in Syria and Iraq, Lahur Sheikh Jangi Talabany. According to Azerbaijani media, an agreement has been reached under which Kurdish fighters will share their experience in Karabakh with local volunteers.

According to haqqin.az, there is a known route by which Kurdish fighters enter Karabakh. The route passes through several provinces of Iran, including Mazandaran. According to haqqin.az, several Kurdish fighters are already in Karabakh, and two groups of fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party, based in Syria and Iran, are actively preparing to move to Karabakh. Per the Azerbaijani media outlets, the region is concerned about the unity between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which is pushing them to provoke a new conflict in Karabakh. The Azerbaijani side is also dissatisfied with the work of the Minsk Group, which is responsible for resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

We want to remind you that recently, there was an attempt to involve the Georgian side in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Foreign media reported that military cargo from Serbia and Russia was arriving in Armenia via Georgia. Azerbaijan later denied this information. Moreover, Ilham Aliyev called Georgia a reliable partner and thanked for not agreeing to carry military cargo destined for Armenia on its territory.

In Karabakh, the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict began 28 years ago or, according to the Armenian version in Artsakh, after the local Armenian population declared independence. The military conflict, which started in 1991, halted in 1994 with the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Bishkek. Russia, France, and the United States have been actively trying to resolve the conflict since then under the auspices of the OSCE, but no progress has been made so far. According to the UN, 33 people got killed, and more than 200 injured during the military confrontation that started in 2016 and lasted for four days.

The parties to the conflict have different statistics. According to the Azerbaijani side, they destroyed 400 Armenian soldiers in the 4-day war.

The Armenian military reports the destruction of 300 Azerbaijani soldiers.
