Little Victor from Barcelona went through the transplantation of six organs at the same time. Surgery for stomach, liver, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas transplantation took place at the Madrid Hospital La Paz in late February. Earlier, little Victor was connected to the device for 18 months, while provided with food bypassing the gastrointestinal tract.
According to doctors, the child's gastrointestinal pathology was visible during an ultrasound examination while his mother was still pregnant. Victor waited for surgery for three years. Despite the difficult transplantation, he spent only two months in the intensive care unit. He got discharged from the hospital last Friday and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at home.
