Professor Gabriel Leung, Dean of the University of Hong Kong’s medical school, said an international study indicated a strain of the virus had increased its infection rate by 30 percent due to a DNA mutation, writes South China Morning Post.
A top medical expert advising the Hong Kong government on COVID-19 has warned that each infected person could transmit the coronavirus to four others. Before mutation, each infected person transmitted the virus to a maximum of three persons.
Gabriel Leung summons the Hong Kong government to toughen control and increase the number of screenings.
The World Health Organization has also talked on the stem mutation earlier, though, according to WHO the virus will not become more virulent as a result of the mutation.
