The first cases of coronavirus infection got detected in China, particularly in the city of Wuhan, near the seafood market in late December of 2019. The Chinese government did not inform the population of the risks until the end of December. They notified the World Health Organization only on December 31. According to researchers, by the end of December, the number of infected people was much higher than the government reported and exceeded 1,000.

The infection quickly spread from the city of Wuhan to China, and then throughout the world. By the end of January, the epidemic spread to 26 countries.
