Dogs taught to detect COVID-19 in Helsinki

Dogs will check passengers for coronavirus by smelling them at Helsinki Airport. The animals were taught to detect the virus with test napkins. The New York Times writes about the new method.

First, the dogs will check the passengers arriving from abroad.

People are asked to clean their skin with a napkin. It is then thrown into a special container and shown to the dog. He smells the handkerchief and determines whether the passenger has a COVID-19 or not.

In case of a positive answer, the person is sent to the information-medical point, where he/she receives further instructions.

The experiment using dogs will last four months.
