Early Parliamentary Elections are Being Held in Israel

Early parliamentary elections are being held in Israel today.  After the elections held in April, Benjamin Netanyahu's party failed to form a coalition with the allies after losing the support from the former Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman.

The main competitor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party is the former Chief of the Headquarter, Benny Gantz's party Blue and White.

Benny Gantz led military operations in the Gaza Strip between 2012 and 2014, and Prime Minister Netanyahu often referred to him as a top military commander.

More than 30 parties are fighting for a 120-seat Knesset in Israel. The necessary number of Parliament mandates to form the government is 61. According to the polls, there will be 10 parties in the legislative body, but none of the parties is able to form the majority independently, so long coalition talks are expected to take place after the election.

One week before the September 17 parliamentary elections, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will promise voters new territories. According to Netanyahu if he wins elections Israel's sovereignty will extend to the northern part of the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley.

In case Likud wins the parliamentary elections, Benjamin Netanyahu will take over as Prime Minister for a fifth term.
