Egypt will hold inaugural elections for a new second parliamentary chamber on August 11-12, Reuters writes.

Last year, Egypt introduced changes in the constitution. According to the changes, the second parliamentary chamber of 2014 was restored, while the number of seats in the first parliamentary chamber was reduced from 596 to 450.

Amendments made to Egypt’s constitution last year provided for the creation of the Council of Senators, a 180-member secondary chamber that will be two-thirds elected by the public and the remainder appointed by the president. The poll results will be announced on August 19.

According to the statement made by President Abdel Fatah Al-Sis, all requirements to prevent coronavirus spread will be followed at the polls.
