Elizabeth II signs law on Brexit

Queen of Great Britain, Her Majesty Elizabeth II signed the law on the country's withdrawal from the EU. Now, it is the European Parliament's turn to sign it, Deutsche Welle reports.

The House of Lords of the British Parliament ratified the deal on January 22, after the House of Commons passed it.

The procedure is supposed to be over on January 31.

On January 20, the UK House of Commons backed Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plan for the UK to leave the EU on January 31. MP voted 358 to 234 - a majority of 124 - in favour of the EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, which now goes on to further scrutiny in Parliament. Speaking on the results of the voting, Johnson said that the country was now "one step closer to getting Brexit done". It is worth noting that Johnson, in his turn, insists that a trade deal with the EU can be in place by the end of the transition period. However, critics say this timescale is unrealistic.
