EU Infectious Diseases Agency: There is no need for a third dose of the vaccine

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has noted that there is no urgent need for booster doses of the coronavirus vaccine at this stage, Politico writes.

"All vaccines authorized in the EU and the European Economic Area have a high level of protection against hospitalization, serious illness, and mortality associated with COVID-19," the statement mentions.

The agency noted that almost a third of adults over the age of 18 in the EU and the European Economic Area have not yet been fully vaccinated.

"In this situation, vaccination of all unvaccinated persons should be a priority," the agency said.

In rich countries, booster doses have become a very controversial topic. The World Health Organization has called on rich countries to discontinue third-dose vaccinations and redistribute them to poorer countries.
