Members of the ethnic minority Karen insurgents in Myanmar said they had captured an army camp on the west bank of the Salween river, near the Thailand border, Reuters reports.

The Karen National Union (KNU) also said the military had carried out several retaliatory airstrikes.

No casualties were reported. The Thai military says 450 villages have been evacuated from the border to safer areas.

A military coup in Myanmar took place on February 1. Dissatisfied with the November parliamentary elections results, the military arrested political leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, and seized power. Protests have been going on in Myanmar cities for several days now. Their participants are protesting the military coup in the country. A state of emergency has been declared in the country since February 1, which will last for a year. After the coup, the country is ruled by the military. Vice President Myint Swe has been appointed acting president.
