First transplant of a cluster from living donor

For the first time, medics transplanted the cluster of a living human being to another person in Vietnam.

The operation took place on January 21, but the fact became known only recently.

A patient is a 31-year-old man who suffered a manufacturing injury. The lower part of his left hand was deformed and needed amputation.

The donor also suffered a manufacturing injury. He also needed an amputation, but doctors noticed that the cluster was in a perfect condition and could be transplanted, and the man agreed to do so.

Doctors say there were 89 cases so far. In all of them, the brain of the donor was already dead. It is the first time a donor is a living person.

The operation lasted for 8 hours. The surgeons connected 36 muscles, two bones, and lots of tissue. After surgery, the patient was able to move his fingers. He uses the hand perfectly.
