The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus nears 40 mln worldwide.

Following the October 18 data of John Hopkins University, a total of 39,964,070 people have been infected since the pandemic beginning, while the novel coronavirus claimed 1,114,700 lives.

The US, India, and Brazil are topping the list with the high rates of infection.

The US has detected 8,342,665 cases, with the number of the dead reaching 224,282.

India follows the US, with 7,494,551 infected and 114,064 dead.

Brazil ranks third with 5,224,362 infected and 153,690 dead.

Georgia has detected 1,192 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, and the number of infected reached 17,477.

The novel coronavirus infection claimed eight new lives in Georgia, and the number of the dead equaled 136.
