How to regain odor after COVID-19?

After 13-year-old Sahil Shah recovered from coronavirus, he lost sense of smell and could not recover by either a neurologist or an otolaryngologist.

The teen's parent visited New York fragrance expert Sue Phillips, who has been helping famous perfume brands develop new fragrances. Sue now has her own company. Though she is not a doctor, her method was justified, and Sahil regained his sense of smell by 25%, Reuters reports.

Sue Phillips, following her method, creates a bouquet of up to 18 artificially created fragrances. Initially, she uses light scents such as rose, lavender, and mint. Then the patient inhales them, and if he can not feel anything, Sue switches to more pungent odors.

Sue's goal is for the patient to "be able to breathe mentally" and recall the scents he felt before losing the sense of smell. With this method, she tries to use the remaining odor so that the body can recover at least a small amount of the lost smell.

According to the father of 13-year-old Sahil Shah, this method was justified. Indeed, the smell can not be restored 100%, but it is better than nothing.
