Ilham Aliyev: We work closely with Georgia on foreign policy issues

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, hosted the Head of the Government of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, at the Zagulba Presidential Residence.

The meeting highlighted the high level of strategic partnership and active political dialogue between the two countries, as well as intensive trade and economic cooperation.

President Aliyev thanked Irakli Gharibashvili for his visit to Baku and for participating in the meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission of the two countries, noting that Azerbaijan, as a friendly country, rejoices when hearing about the success of the Georgian government.

"We continue our political dialogue between the two brotherly nations, which has always been very active. We work very closely on foreign policy in our region. New challenges, as well as opportunities, emerged. Our relations are beneficial not only for our nations but for the region as a whole.

Today we will also discuss the traditional areas of our cooperation: Natural gas and oil transportation, as well as already implemented projects, the results of which we are already enjoying. Thanks to these projects, a special form of cooperation has been established between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as these projects are important not only for our countries but also for many other countries in the Eurasian region. I am sure that this visit will give a new impetus to our cooperation. Thank you for agreeing to my invitation. Once again, welcome!" said Ilham Aliyev.

The Prime Minister of Georgia thanked the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the hospitality.

Irakli Gharibashvili noted that Georgia is interested in strengthening bilateral political, economic, cultural, and other ties with Azerbaijan, as well as peace and stability in the region, which will ensure economic development.

"Mr. President, thank you very much for inviting us. It's a great pleasure to be here in Baku. Thank you very much for your warm welcoming and hospitality. It's a great opportunity to speak about our excellent bilateral relationship. We are friends and brothers, as you mentioned.

We will also be holding the 8th economic commission meeting today, and we will discuss our bilateral relationship, which is developing. Georgia is, of course, interested in strengthening our bilateral ties-political, economic, cultural, and so on. Also, we are interested in peace and stability in the region. This will be a foundation for robust economic development. This is my second visit already this year. As you mentioned, Mr. President, we have spoken many times already, several telephone conversations. I am sure we will discuss today many issues which are related to our future. I am sure that this would be another fruitful meeting," Gharibashvili stated.
