"The "Indian strain" of coronavirus got detected in 92 countries around the world," Maria Van Kerkhove, the head of the World Health Organization's Department of Emerging Diseases, stated at a briefing; СNBC reports.

"The Delta variant has been registered in 92 countries. It is particularly alarming because it is more contagious and spreads rapidly around the world," she said.

One of the reasons for this is that people in different countries neglect social protection measures.

"According to preliminary information, infection with this strain increases the risk of hospitalization," added the head of the Department of Emerging Diseases of the World Health Organization.

The specialist is convinced that more time, as well as a reasonable rate of vaccination, are needed to establish control over this strain.

"In any case, vaccines help prevent serious diseases and mortality," said the expert.
