Iran threatens with a new missile attack on US base in Iraq - Updated

According to the local media, Iran has launched a missile attack on US bases in Iraq. The attack was carried out with full accuracy.

The missile strikes targeted the military Ain Assad Air Base, where 1500 US troops are located.

According to CNN, citizens of Iraq were injured as a result of an attack. The source could not say whether citizens of Iraq were killed or wounded. The exact number of casualties is unknown.

US official told CNN that there were no reports of deaths of US citizens.

Reuters reports that according to Iraqi Armed Forces officials, the Iraqi military was not injured as a result of missile strikes by Iran.

Another military facility that Iran decided to attack was the airport in the city of Erbil. Reportedly, several ballistic and wing missiles fired in the direction of Erbil, but as CNN reports, part of them did not come into action.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says any "repressive step" taken by the United States will be followed by severe reaction from Iran.

"The Americans now know that their bases in Iraq have been targeted and that an attack could be carried out again if the US responds to the first attack."

According to the representative of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Tehran's reaction to the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani was so far "the weakest" in Iran's revenge scenario.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, also released a statement. According to him, Iran does not want an escalation.

"Iran took & concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens & senior officials were launched. We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression," Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote on his Twitter page.

According to CNN, the US military received a timely warning message on Iran's missile strike. As an anonymous source told the TV Channel, the military had enough time to go into the shelters.
