During the second wave of COVID-19 - from July to October 2020 - Japan's suicide rate increased by 16%, the local edition Kyodo reports.

The Tokyo Institute of Health and Longevity believes that the country's inhabitants more easily survived the pandemic's first wave thanks to material support from the state, the transition to distance education and a shorter working day.

According to the publication, the increase in suicide cases during the second wave of coronavirus in Japan is associated with the country's citizens' worsening financial situation.
