76-year-old Ricardo Valero, Mexico's ambassador to Argentina, following the allegations of shoplifting, resigned citing the health problems. A video from late October showed the diplomat attempting to steal a book. Marcelo Ebrard, the Foreign Minister of Mexico, shared a statement on his Twitter account saying that Valero was undergoing neurological treatment.

At one of the bookstores in Buenos Aires ambassador was trying to steal a biography of Giacomo Casanova, the 18th-century Italian writer. He hid the book in the newspaper. While leaving, Valero was stopped by security, who took him to the police station. After the identification, the ambassador was released.

The price of the book, which Valero tried to steal, is about $ 12.
