British artists discovered the masterpiece of Sir Peter Paul Rubens "Portrait of a Lady." The public has not seen the painting for 140 years. The Daily Telegraph writes about the finding. Experts at Christie's auction valued the painting at £ 4 3.4 million.

In 1878, Charles Butler from London became the owner of the Portrait of a Lady. Rubens' work was in his family until 2017. One day Butler's descendants decided to sell it, but local appraisers said the painting belonged to his student. As a result, the painting sold for £ 77,000.

The new owner hired professional experts to evaluate the canvas, who confirmed that it is truly a Rubens masterpiece.
