A swan mourning the death of a friend stopped rail traffic in Germany, the local police reports.

The incident happened on December 23rd. Two swans appeared on the high-speed rail tracks between Kassel and Göttingen.

One of the birds allegedly died of electric shock. The other did not want to leave and stayed at the place where its friend died.

Firefighters were later able to pull the swan out with the help of special equipment. Twenty-three trains were stopped for 50 minutes due to the rescue operation. The surviving swan was released into the local river.
