The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved the candidacy of Bill Nelson for the post of the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The live broadcast was on the website of the legislature, Axios reports.

President Joe Biden submitted Nelson's candidacy to the Senate for approval in March. He will take the oath in the near future.

A 78-year-old Nelson, who is currently a member of the ruling Democratic Party of the United States, has served in the Senate and Congress for years. While serving in the Senate and House of Representatives, he chaired the Space Subcommittees. Nelson has been a member of NASA's Advisory Board since 2019. In 1986, within the STS-61C mission, he flew into space with the Space Shuttle program.
