Due to the coronavirus, the Nobel banquet will no longer take place this year. The event should have been held in Stockholm on December 10. Organizers say they will no longer invite the most prestigious award winners to Sweden because of the pandemic.
"It is unacceptable for so many people to gather side by side. It is also unclear whether people will be able to come to Sweden the way they want," said Lars Heikensten, the Nobel Foundation executive director.
Nobel laureates will be revealed in early October. It is unknown how the awards will be handed to the winners.
