The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved the coronavirus treatment drug Sotrovimab, developed by the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, Aljazeera news agency writes.

The agency explains that the drug is effective against a new strain of coronavirus, "Omicron."

Clinical studies have shown that Sotrovimab reduces the risk of developing COVID-19 in severe forms, hospitalization, and death by 79%.

According to the British Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, drug treatment should start within five days of the onset of coronavirus symptoms.
