New York state reached a tragic milestone this week: It now has more Covid-19 patients than any country in the world, aside from the United States.
The state's total of 181,026 cases, as of April 11, is higher than Spain's (161,852 cases) and Italy's (152,271), countries with populations many times larger than New York, according to CNN.
"Lat night, 1,600 new coronavirus cases were confirmed, with this making us think that the coronaviris peak has hit the country," New York Governer Andrew Cuomo said.
The US is the worst affected country by the novel coronavirus worldwide, with the highest number of cases confirmed in NY, which has so far recorded 196,146 cases and 10,058 deaths.
