Pfizer starts testing COVID-19 vaccine in children

Pfizer said it had started testing the coronavirus vaccine in children aged six months to 11 years. U.S. experts and healthcare workers believe that collective immunity to COVID-19 will not be possible in the country without vaccinating children, CNBC reports.

The company said that the first participants in the study had already been vaccinated. In the first stage, 144 children will take part in the survey.

The dosage of three age groups will be studied. We are talking about children from 6 months to 2 years, 2 to 5 years, and 5 to 11 years.

For adults, the vaccine involves two doses, 30 micrograms each; the initial dosage for children was set at ten micrograms.

"Pfizer has extensive experience in advancing clinical trials of vaccines in children and infants and seeks to improve the health and well-being of children through carefully designed clinical trials," the company said in a statement.
