Moscow Appeal Court has declared that the replacement of a parole sentence of Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny with real imprisonment is legal.

The court reduced Navalny’s imprisonment term by a month and a half.

The judge said that Navalny’s domestic imprisonment also counted.

Alexei Navalny faces about one million rouble penalty for another case regarding the defamation of a veteran.

On February 2, Moscow City canceled Alexey Navalny's probation in the Yves Rocher case and assigned him a real term of 3.5 years in a general regime colony.

The judge credited Navalny with a year spent under house arrest during the Yves Rocher investigation.

The Federal Service for the Execution of Sentences of Russia applied to the court to change the suspended sentence for the oppositionist to a real one even before Navalny returned from Germany. The reason for this was the violation by Navalny of the suspended sentence.

At the end of 2014, a Russian court found brothers Alexei and Oleg Navalny guilty of fraud in the Yves Rocher case. Oleg Navalny was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, and Alexei Navalny was suspended.

On January 18, the Khimki court chose a measure of restraint for Alexei Navalny in the form of 30 days of arrest.

On January 17, law enforcement officials of the Russian Federation detained opposition leader Alexei Navalny while passing through passport control at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. The oppositionist flew to Russia from Germany.

For reference, in August last year, during a flight from Omsk to Moscow, the Russian oppositionist became ill on the plane. The plane made an emergency landing, and Navalny was taken to the Omsk hospital's toxicology department. Then Navalny was transported for treatment to one of the Berlin hospitals.

In Berlin, a medical examination of Navalny established that the Novichok nerve agent had poisoned the Russian opposition leader. This fact was regarded as an attempt on Navalny's life by the Kremlin. The Russian authorities have denied the accusation and said they had nothing to do with the incident.
