
Former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Japanese Sadako Ogata, died at the age of 93.
She was the first Japanese to hold the position.
Sadako Ogata was born in 1927 in Tokyo, Japan. During her diplomatic career, she served as an advisor to the Japanese delegation of the UN, the Head of the United Nations Children's Fund and represented Japan at the UN Human Rights Committee.
