In case of threat or aggression from a third state, Azerbaijan and Turkey will act jointly. Also, countries will continue to coordinate the modernization of their armed forces, the "Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey" states. The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, signed the declaration.

The State News Agency of Azerbaijan published the text of the declaration.

"In the event of their independence, the sovereignty of internationally recognized borders, territorial integrity, inviolability or security by a third State or States, the parties shall conduct joint consultations to eliminate the threat or to prevent aggression.

The document also emphasizes that the parties will take the initiative to provide each other with the necessary assistance following the objectives and principles of the UN Charter. The amount and form of this assistance will be determined during the urgent review. In addition, a decision will be taken to ensure joint defense capabilities and coordinated activities of the Armed Forces and command structures will be organized," the agency writes.

According to the declaration, Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue to "improve the two countries' armed forces following modern requirements."
