Luigi Brugnaro, the Mayor of Venice plans to declare a state of disaster in the Italian city. He posted a statement on his Twitter account.
"We're currently facing an exceptionally high tide. Everyone has been mobilized to cope with the emergency”, the statement reads.
Brugnaro said the heavy rains had hit Venice. It is the highest tide in more than 50 years.
Bad weather is expected in Venice in the following days. The streets of the city are flooded. The water level reached 1.28 meters.
