Talibs’ and Afghan government peace talks to resume

The peace talks between the Afghan government and Talibs resumed in Doha, Qatar capital, Reuters writes.

The talks are meant to finish the 19-year conflict between the parties.

The head of Afghanistan’s Peace Council, Abdullah Abdullah, the U.S. State Secretary, Mike Pompeo, and Taliban Deputy Leader Mullah Baradar, participate in talks.

International diplomats consider the talks the only way to end the conflict that sacrificed over 100,000 lives of Afghan peaceful civilians.

The agreement between the USA and Taliban, on the removal of the American army from the country and cessation of arms, exchange of hostages between the Taliban and Afghan government, and inter-Afghan agreement talks initiation, was signed in February 2020 in Doha. The agreement is meant to put an end to the 19-year war with the Taliban.
