The third-largest diamond in the world was discovered in Botswana, Agence France-Presse writes.

It weighs 1,174 carats. It is preceded only by the famous South African "Cullinan" mined in the twentieth century, weighing 3,106 carats, and "Sewelô" mined in 2019 in the same mine, which weighs 1,758 carats.

The owner of the unique diamond mine, Canadian company Lucara Diamond Corp. got the diamond on June 12, though it was officially presented to the Botswana government on Wednesday.

"This is a historical discovery for both of us," said CEO Nassim Lahri at the presentation.
