The United States praises the European Council's decision on imposing sanctions on Russia for poisoning Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny, Morgan Ortagus, Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, declared.
"Those responsible for this attack must be held accountable," she wrote on her official Twitter page.

The EU imposed sanctions on several Russian officials regarding the Navalny case.
The UK followed the EU and imposed sanctions on several Russian high-rank officials.
Earlier in August, Navalny felt sick in the airplane when he was flying from Omsk to Moscow.
The crew made an emergency landing. Navalny was delivered to the intoxication department of an Omsk hospital.
Later, he was transferred for treatment to Berlin, Germany, where the medical examinations showed he had been poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent.
