A total of 228 members of the House of Representatives voted for adopting the bill, while 164 were against it.
The bill aims to legalize marijuana nationwide and remove convictions from persons convicted of crimes related to the possession and trade of marijuana without the use of violence.
The bill will be submitted to the Senate for approval.
Reports say the Republicans who control the Senate do not support this bill, and it is unlikely to be adopted shortly by both houses of Congress.
