A new type of virus has been discovered in India, where coronavirus has undergone a double mutation. The Ministry of Health has not yet confirmed a link between the new strain of the virus and the rapid increase in cases of infection in certain states.
The British, Brazilian, and South African strains of the coronavirus entered India simultaneously, having already been reported in 18 states. A mutated strain of the virus has been detected in 400 people. Of these, 158 people became ill in the last two weeks. According to the Ministry of Health, no cases of reinfection of these strains have been reported.
India ranks third in the world in coronavirus mortality. 11.7 million cases of infection got detected in the country, with more than 160,000 people dead.
